So I’m going to try something new and hopefully this will help me get into a regular blogging schedule. You may know already that I do something called Fashion Blogger Fridays where I share different fashion bloggers that I have come across and like. Now I’m adding Work Wednesdays. These posts will be work wear, and I’ll share links and ideas about different options to wear to work. Since the majority of my clothes are work wear I thought this may be kind of fun. Soo without further adieu, below are pictures of today’s outfit. Most of these pieces are old so the stores where I bought them probably do not have them anymore. They are basic pieces though that can be found anywhere. This is just a simple black top and pants that I jazzed up a bit with a stripe blazer and brightly colored bag. Very simple and comfortable, but office appropriate.
Blazer: From Target, however, it is from a year ago, similar blazers can be found here or for a more affordable version here.
The top: A sleeveless black blouse, similar ones can be found almost anywhere, I like this one from H&M.
Pants: Wide leg black pants form NY&Co that are like 8 years old. A good pair of pants are an investment! Similar pants can also be found anywhere, I also like these from H&M.
Lets not forget about the bag! What better way to add a pop of color than with a bag? This fuscia bag is from ShopTarb. I don’t think there are any like this one being sold right now, BUT there is the Illa Lane collection for sale now and they are Fabulous, so check it out!
Jumpsuits are so on trend this summer. I’ve always loved jumpsuits, but until recently I never wore them because they were never long enough for me, can you say HIGHWATERS! lol…Last summer I got my first jumpsuit from Long Tall Sally, and this year more sites have been selling them for us tall-ies! I love them. They are cool in the summer and allow for the breeze to help beat the heat. Below are some of the jumpsuits I have been wearing. I like them made from cotton or viscose. One is made from polyester and the material doesn’t breath as much on really hot days.
This jumpsuit is from Long Tall Sally. I got it last year sometime so there are no more just like this, however, they do have other jumpsuits on sale now here. This one is polyester, so doesn’t breath as well as the other jumpsuits featured. But I still like the designs on it, and most importantly, it FITS!
The next two suits are from Alloy Apparel. This one, the Rachel wide leg jumpsuit can be found here. I absolutely love this one. The material is thin but not see through, and breathable so definitely good for hot weather. Best of all inseam is 37in! Long enough for me to wear with heels if I want! In fact in these pics I’m wearing 3in wedges. Don’t worry it also comes in regular length. I paired it with a thin cardigan (since it is sleeveless) from Target, perfect for layering in hot weather since it is thin material. I hate wearing thick cardigans when it’s hot out. I also love the tribal like design on this one.
Last but not least is yet another jumpsuit I got from Alloy Apparel. This one is also made from thin cottony material that catches the breeze nicely. I wanted a solid color as well as a pattern, so I chose this one because who doesn’t like an olive green? It’s a neutral so can go with pretty much anything, which is great for me since I have lots of colored and patterned cardigans that I wear to work. I have worn this jumpsuit to work with heels and a black cardigan, but in these pics I dressed more casual for the weekend with a peach cardigan from Old Navy. Old Navy and Target both sell seasonal cardigans- thinner in the summer and thicker for the fall/winter months. Added a peach lace scarf around my neck from Styled by Zubaidah for neck coverage. This particular jumpsuit is sold out, but a similar one can be found here.
So I’ve been waiting to do this blog post for awhile and I’m very excited about it. Eshakti is one of my absolute favorite places to get dresses. I mean I could basically be their poster child as much as I’ve been ordering from them and screaming from the rooftops how much I love them. I’ve been ordering from Eshakti for like 8 or 9 years now. In fact I found them randomly while searching for a website for tall maxi dresses. Because I’m 5’10” it is challenging to find maxi dresses that come to the floor (how I like them). So basically I have been ordering from them before everyone knew about them lol. Anyway, why do I love this website so much???
They sell sizes 0-36W!!! I mean seriously is that a range or what? Almost anyone can find their size, and if you can’t, that brings me to the second reason why I love Eshakti.
Custom sizing!!! You can put in your measurements and they will make the garment to your measurements. You would think that would be super expensive, but NO, custom sizing is only an additional $7.50 to the price of the garment. And if it is your first time ordering custom is free.
Custom styling options. Ok if the affordable custom sizing wasn’t a sell, this will be. Most garments have a custom style option, for example you can change the sleeves, or neckline or even length. I looooooove this because I can add sleeves to a sleeveless dress.
Lastly, if use promotion code “faiscloset” you can get an additional 10% off!!!! (Valid from 6/23/15-7/23/15)
If I didn’t say it already, you MUST check out Eshakti! Whether you are tall, or short, skinny or curvy, you can definitely find something on this website. Here are some of the dresses that I have ordered and had custom made. I also included the original picture of the dress so you can see the changes I got. I would say the only “con” if you call it a con, is that because every item is custom made you cannot get express or overnight delivery. I have found delivery takes anywhere from 2-4 weeks depending on what it is I ordered. So if you have an event coming up you would need to plan ahead. They do send you a tracking number once your order has shipped and if you have an issue you can return the item. I also found customer service to be great. They quickly respond to emails. Oh and I must not forget to mention the quality of the materials used. I have a couple of dresses I ordered like 5 years ago and they are still in perfect condition as if I just ordered them.
This is a Cowl neck stripe knit maxi. I had sleeves added to this dress. The left is how the dress was on sale on the website. The right is how I wore it with sleeves. This dress is a cotton knit and feels very cool for the summer. This one isn’t lined, but it isn’t see through either. Unfortunately this dress is out of stock at the moment, but they frequently bring styles back.
This is the Cowl neck hacci knit maxi dress. Again this dress was originally sleeveless and I opted for sleeves. Material is a stretchy knit so I didn’t custom size the arms because I figured with stretchy material it would fit and it did! This dress is very thin and cool for summer, however you need a slip because it is almost a bit see through depending on the lighting. Here is a link to this dress. http://www.eshakti.com/shop/Dresses/Cowl-neck-hacci-knit-maxi-dress-CL0035715
Another view of this dress. I love how the dress color looks different in different lighting. Here I wore it with a cardigan for work. Oh and did I mention it has POCKETS?! Pockets are a custom styling option on most dresses too, so if you don’t like them you can opt to remove them, but who doesn’t love pockets?
Sorry the pic on the left is blurry. Here is the Cowl neck abstract print jersey dress. Another sleeveless dress I got sleeves added to. This dress is lined so no need for layering and it has a bit of a stretch. I usually get length “full length with 3 in heels” to ensure the dress will be long enough for me. This one I could wear with flats if I wanted. It can be found here- http://www.eshakti.com/shop/Dress/Cowl-neck-abstract-print-jersey-maxi-dress-CL0035857
Close-up of the details of the dress. This dress is also a stretchy knit. This one has lining so it is not see through. Bag is from http://www.shoptarb.com/ . Shoes are Steve Madden.
So this one is a late post… hmmm let’s see, back on March 29th I got to participate in a photo shoot for project carefree bmw. What is that you ask? A movement started by poet Sadiyah Bashir and photographer Soda Ahmed to embrace the culture, religion and beauty of the Black Muslim Woman. To watch the full video click here.
What did I wear to this photo shoot you ask? Great question! I finally got to wear my Amanda Valentine Maxi color block dress!!! Ok who watches project runway? If you do, you’ll know who Amanda Valentine is. She went to fashion week in the finale and had two maxi dresses. I LOOOOOVED both of them, they are so bohemian chic. Anyhow I stalked her website until she put them for sale, and I got one. I love this dress. Quite honestly though, I was nervous about how this dress would look on me since I’m not a size 0 you know. A couple of my friends thought it would look like a sheet on me. Well I took a chance anyway because I loved it so much and I think it looks ok. What do you think? Oh and by the way, how fabulous is this necklace?? My friend got it for me as a gift and I LOVE it!
The Amanda Valentine color block maxi. Original on the left and me on the right :).
Oh my gosh it’s been awhile right? This crazy winter weather made it so hard for me to take pics. Anyhow, FINALLY it seems like Spring is trying to show up. This past weekend I attended a fashion show put on by the International Sisters Network. Since the models weren’t covered we weren’t allowed to take pics of the runway show to post, however, I totally love the outfit that I wore and want to share it with you, also there were some pretty fashionable ladies there and I’ll post a couple of pics of them too. The dress I wore was made by a woman I found on IG (Instagram ). She is a seamstress and posts when she gets new fabrics so that you can place an order with her. So it’s always scary to buy something from someone off IG, but luckily I knew someone who had purchased from her before so I went for it! Quick delivery and she was quick to respond to any of my questions. Check out her IG page @clothingbyshe to see more of her work. To place orders you can email her at firstname.lastname@example.org, or call 484-995-9833 between the hours of 9am-8pm est. Since it was a bit windy I also wore a cape. This awesome cape is from here. I won the cape in an instagram giveaway and I LOVE it. In my opinion, capes are so chic and can make any outfit look elegant. So what better to wear to a fashion show? I have to say there is nothing like getting clothes made for your body, they fit perfectly, this dress and this cape are well made and beautiful material! Hope you like the pics….(By the way it was super windy that day lol)… also posting pics of some lovely fashionistas.
Look at this cutie Sophia! Loving her mint green maxi dress, she’s ready for spring.
One of my best best friends Hayya, gorgeous in blue!
All black everything! My sister from another mother Jenea, wearing a tulle skirt. These are so in right now. I love how she wore it with a leather vest, mixing hard and soft.
Got to meet up with YouTuber/ fashionista/ Poet Sadiya. She’s an amazing woman! Check out her IG page @kinghijabpin or her Tumblr Kinghijabpin
