Can a dress be sporty?

Hello dears and happy Tuesday!

Hope you are having a wonderful week so far. This week I’m taking a little break from Work Wednesday with this post (so I won’t be posting tomorrow )  also with it being so close to the end of the year, I’m thinking of ways to revamp or change up my blog… Stay tuned..  Anyhow, let’s get to it shall we? So my title is, can a dress be sporty? What do you guys think? I found this sport dress from Diamonds in the Rough (DIR) Fashion. The pictures on the website were cute, the dress looked like it would be extremely comfortable especially as like a weekend casual look. So I couldn’t decide if I wanted the navy or gray or both! I decided to go with navy first since it is winter. Plus I thought the dark color would possibly be a little slimming, and I wasn’t at all sure if I was going to fit this dress.

If you have followed my blog, then you know part of my challenge in finding dresses is that I’m quite tall. Mostly when I look at the sizing on many of the Muslim online shops, the length is 58in standard. I usually need 61in, though I will settle for a 60in. The other challenge I have is I have gained some weight recently and I’m Definitely on the chunky side at the moment, and again many of these sites do NOT have plus size dresses. Sooo imagine my surprise to see that the size was XL AND the length was 60in??? I figured I would give this dress a try. PLUS it is VERY affordable!

So here are some pics of the sport dress. It was a bit tight, however, it was also very comfortable. I’m big on material- I don’t really like some of the really cheap polyesters/rayons because they garments do not last as long sometimes. The material of this dress is a bit stretchy and feels very soft like a pair of sweats. If they had a larger size, I would go up one more size so the dress could be a bit looser on top around my chest and arms. Another super cute thing about this dress is that it has a hood. So it is like a hoodie and a dress all in one.

I wore this dress two different ways. The first, I tried to dress it up a bit with heels and the second look is with sneakers and has a more casual look. I would say overall I’m happy with this dress and happy that DIR Fashion sells larger and longer clothing items! I will definitely be ordering from them again.

OOh AAAND I have to apologize about these pictures, the lighting is horrible! Trying to take pictures in these cloudy winter days is a challenge to say the least!

💕Work Wednesday💕 Fall Maxi Dress

Bonus post tonight! This is my post that SHOULD have gone up on Wednesday, buuuuut of course I’m late LOL. Anyhow for work Wednesday I wore a fall maxi dress. Actually I wear this dress all times of the year, but I love it for fall because of the colors. The browns and orange remind me of leaves changing colors. I absolutely love the geometric lines as well, it makes me look longer and leaner than I am and helps hide my fluffy midsection. So, to make this all season maxi work appropriate, I added a blazer. To top off the fall feel, I’m also wearing some brown boots.

If you want to know where these items came from, that is challenging because all of these items are OLD! haha.. when you find a good quality piece, hold onto it. Espcially since maxis seem to never go out of style!  Ok the dress is from Long Tall Sally, but again from years ago. Buuuut look at this maxi dress they have for sale this season! Talk about a fall maxi, I love it!

Blazer is from Target, and the boots are Etienne Aigner that were gifted to me a couple of years ago. Some similar boots are found here.

Talk to ya soon!

xoxo

💕FASHION BLOGGER FRIDAY💕

For today’s fashion blogger Friday feature, meet Liz from downtowndemure. Being fashionable while maintaining tenants of faith is not limited to just Muslim women. I have found while blogging that there are so many women who want to explore fashion while maintaining their values. These women are from many walks of life and many faiths, but all have share similarities. Trying to maintain modesty and be fashionable is just one. Whether or not you agree with her belief system isn’t the point. I think if we focus on our similarities the world would be a less hateful place and be filled with more love and acceptance. Who knew that fashion could connect women from across faiths, time zones, and anything else??? Downtowndemure’s blog is greaaaat! And of course she’s gorg too 😍. Check out her fashion blog.

If you haven’t heard of ESHAKTI, you must read this!

So I’ve been waiting to do this blog post for awhile and I’m very excited about it. Eshakti is one of my absolute favorite places to get dresses. I mean I could basically be their poster child as much as I’ve been ordering from them and screaming from the rooftops how much I love them. I’ve been ordering from Eshakti for like 8 or 9 years now. In fact I found them randomly while searching for a website for tall maxi dresses. Because I’m 5’10” it is challenging to find maxi dresses that come to the floor (how I like them). So basically I have been ordering from them before everyone knew about them lol.  Anyway, why do I love this website so much???

  1. They sell sizes 0-36W!!! I mean seriously is that a range or what? Almost anyone can find their size, and if you can’t, that brings me to the second reason why I love Eshakti.
  2. Custom sizing!!! You can put in your measurements and they will make the garment to your measurements. You would think that would be super expensive, but NO, custom sizing is only an additional $7.50 to the price of the garment. And if it is your first time ordering custom is free.
  3. Custom styling options. Ok if the affordable custom sizing wasn’t a sell, this will be. Most garments have a custom style option, for example you can change the sleeves, or neckline or even length. I looooooove this because I can add sleeves to a sleeveless dress.
  4. Lastly, if use promotion code “faiscloset”  you can get an additional 10% off!!!! (Valid from 6/23/15-7/23/15)

If I didn’t say it already, you MUST check out Eshakti! Whether you are tall, or short, skinny or curvy, you can definitely find something on this website. Here are some of the dresses that I have ordered and had custom made. I also included the original picture of the dress so you can see the changes I got. I would say the only “con” if you call it a con, is that because every item is custom made you cannot get express or overnight delivery. I have found delivery takes anywhere from 2-4 weeks depending on what it is I ordered. So if you have an event coming up you would need to plan ahead. They do send you a tracking number once your order has shipped and if you have an issue you can return the item. I also found customer service to be great. They quickly respond to emails. Oh and I must not forget to mention the quality of the materials used. I have a couple of dresses I ordered like 5 years ago and they are still in perfect condition as if I just ordered them.

This is a Cowl neck stripe knit maxi. I had sleeves added to this dress. The left is how the dress was on sale on the website. The right is how I wore it with sleeves. This dress is a cotton knit and feels very cool for the summer. This one isn’t lined, but it isn’t see through either. Unfortunately this dress is out of stock at the moment, but they frequently bring styles back.

This is the Cowl neck hacci knit maxi dress. Again this dress was originally sleeveless and I opted for sleeves. Material is a stretchy knit so I didn’t custom size the arms because I figured with stretchy material it would fit and it did! This dress is very thin and cool for summer, however you need a slip because it is almost a bit see through depending on the lighting. Another view of this dress. I love how the dress color looks different in different lighting. Here I wore it with a cardigan for work. Oh and did I mention it has POCKETS?! Pockets are a custom styling option on most dresses too, so if you don’t like them you can opt to remove them, but who doesn’t love pockets?

Sorry the pic on the left is blurry. Here is the Cowl neck abstract print jersey dress. Another sleeveless dress I got sleeves added to. This dress is lined so no need for layering and it has a bit of a stretch. I usually get length “full length with 3 in heels” to ensure the dress will be long enough for me. This one I could wear with flats if I wanted. It can be found here- http://www.eshakti.com/shop/Dress/Cowl-neck-abstract-print-jersey-maxi-dress-CL0035857

Close-up of the details of the dress. This dress is also a stretchy knit. This one has lining so it is not see through. Bag is from http://www.shoptarb.com/ . Shoes are Steve Madden.

It also has POCKETS! And cute belt detailing.

That time I met Zubaidah …

Hi guys!!! If any of you follow me on instagram or facebook, then you have already seen that I got to model some of Styled by Zubaidah’s spring dresses. I met her at a convention not only did I get to wear a couple of her fabulous dresses, I also got a little impromptu interview. I was super excited because I have been following Styled by Zubaidah on Insta for awhile and I love her dresses. Here is my mini interview and pictures:

Who is Styled by Zubaidah? Do you know? Zubaidah originally started her company selling unique jewelry. Now she sells women’s fashion and specializes in selling sizes 12-22. How amazing is that? A company especially for us curvier women, because guess what, we want to look fashionable too!! Not only does Zubaidah run her company designing beautiful women’s fashion she is also a wife and mommy and has a full time job outside of running this business. A woman after my own heart! I asked her about her background and what made her want to start this company.

When asked about her clothing she said, she likes to make things that have some stretch to it. Stretchy material is great for curvier women,  she wants to make sure the clothes fit comfortably.

I asked her how does she build up clientele. Her response was mostly word of mouth and events. She has a quality product that people want to spend their money on, and its modest. For example, the cardigans I’m wearing in the pictures wasn’t sheer, so would not require much layering especially during the hot summer.  She does post on social media as well.

Lastly I asked her what is her biggest challenge-? Like a true designer, her answer was, redefining , staying relevant, having things that fit the curvier women that they will feel comfortable in. Doing this AND being a mother  (finding the time for it all). However, even with these challenges, she loves it and does it for the pleasure of her lord. Providing women with clothes that they can feel beautiful in, while still maintaining their modesty.

I am great full I got to meet Zubaidah and I look forward to meeting up with her again in the near future iA!

Now, how about these dresses and cardigans? They are all available here.

Carefree BMW

So this one is a late post… hmmm let’s see, back on March 29th I got to participate in a photo shoot for project carefree bmw. What is that you ask? A movement started by poet Sadiyah Bashir and photographer Soda Ahmed to embrace the culture, religion and beauty of the Black Muslim Woman.  To watch the full video click here.

What did I wear to this photo shoot you ask? Great question! I finally got to wear my Amanda Valentine Maxi color block dress!!! Ok who watches project runway? If you do, you’ll know who Amanda Valentine is. She went to fashion week in the finale and had two maxi dresses. I LOOOOOVED both of them, they are so bohemian chic. Anyhow I stalked her website until she put them for sale, and I got one. I love this dress. Quite honestly though, I was nervous about how this dress would look on me since I’m not a size 0 you know. A couple of my friends thought it would look like a sheet on me. Well I took a chance anyway because I loved it so much and I think it looks ok. What do you think? Oh and by the way, how fabulous is this necklace?? My friend got it for me as a gift and I LOVE it!

Capes and prints

Hi Guys!

Oh my gosh it’s been awhile right? This crazy winter weather made it so hard for me to take pics. Anyhow, FINALLY it seems like Spring is trying to show up. This past weekend I attended a fashion show put on by the International Sisters Network. Since the models weren’t covered we weren’t allowed to take pics of the runway show to post, however, I totally love the outfit that I wore and want to share it with you, also there were some pretty fashionable ladies there and I’ll post a couple of pics of them too. The dress I wore was made by a woman I found on IG (Instagram ). She is a seamstress and posts when she gets new fabrics so that you can place an order with her. So it’s always scary to buy something from someone off IG, but luckily I knew someone who had purchased from her before so I went for it! Quick delivery and she was quick to respond to any of my questions.  Check out her IG page @clothingbyshe to see more of her work. To place orders you can email her at clothingbyshe@yahoo.com, or call 484-995-9833 between the hours of 9am-8pm est. Since it was a bit windy I also wore a cape. This awesome cape is from here.  I won the cape in an instagram giveaway and I LOVE it. In my opinion, capes are so chic and can make any outfit look elegant.  So what better to wear to a fashion show? I have to say there is nothing like getting clothes made for your body, they fit perfectly, this dress and this cape are well made and beautiful material! Hope you like the pics….(By the way it was super windy that day lol)… also posting pics of some lovely fashionistas.

Look at this cutie Sophia! Loving her mint green maxi dress, she’s ready for spring.

One of my best best friends Hayya, gorgeous in blue!

All black everything! My sister from another mother Jenea, wearing a tulle skirt. These are so in right now. I love how she wore it with a leather vest, mixing hard and soft.
