Fashion Blogger Friday: Interview with Leena

Hello guys!!! So as you know it’s been Fashion week in New York City, so for today’s fashion blogger Friday, I’m going to post my interview with the lovely Leena who attended NYFW! Leena was so nice to take time from her busy schedule to answer a few questions for me. If you haven’t heard of Leena, check out her blog here. So let’s get started!

Me: I know you have been blogging for awhile now, is this your first time going to a fashion week?
Leena: Yes, this is my first time!
Me: How did you go about attending NYFW? And which shows did you attend?
Leena: I was given the opportunity to attend this year after being invited by Betsey Johnson, Desigual, Mara Hoffman, and Noon by Noor!
Me: Did you get to decide which shows you attended?
Leena: It was invitation only so I was not able to decide!
Me: Were you able to meet designers and other bloggers? If so, how were you received?
Leena: I did meet other influencers and they really respected my modest dress and received me really well! I got a lot of compliments on my outfits and everyone was super nice!
Me: Were there any other Hijabis there?
Leena: Yes there were other hijabi bloggers there, I was really proud that we were there to represent!
Me: How would you describe your overall experience? Which was your favorite show/designer?
Leena: My overall experience was exciting and fun! I would love to go again!
Me: If you could attend any fashion show, which one would it be?
Leena: I would have loved to attend Tadashi Shoji! So many modest evening gown inspirations!
Me: Were there any designers that you found particularly inspiring for your own aesthetic ?
Leena: I loved the femininity and grace of the Noon by Noor show!
Me:Do you feel that mainstream fashion designers are becoming more receptive to making modest pieces/collections  that would target a population of consumers that adhere to certain dress requirements? (Not just Muslims of course but also Jewish, Christians and others as well.)
Leena: On the runway there was nothing that was 100% hijabi friendly, but there were definitely pieces that we could incorporate into our wardrobe!!
Me:Do you plan to go back to NYFW or to attend other fashion weeks even possibly internationally ?
Leena: Yes I would love to if I have the opportunity!
Leena’s outfits were absolutely elegant and chic. Below are some pictures of what she wore, and to see more, visit her blog! Lastly, in a previous conversation I asked Leena for advice for beginner bloggers. I thought this was great advice, so if any of you are thinking of starting a blog, check out the tips she gave me, which I found to be valuable advice!
” My advice would be to have clear pictures, stick to your personal style always, be unique, make sure you are absolutely in love with everything you post, hashtag on instagram so that you can be seen more often, do collabs with other bloggers to get your name out there, and be patient because it takes time to build a following and establish yourself. Good luck and lots of love!!”
Leena definitely has her own sense of personal style! I hope you enjoyed this interview, and talk to ya soon! Stay tuned, DC Fashion week is coming up, more to come….

That time I met Zubaidah …

Hi guys!!! If any of you follow me on instagram or facebook, then you have already seen that I got to model some of Styled by Zubaidah’s spring dresses. I met her at a convention not only did I get to wear a couple of her fabulous dresses, I also got a little impromptu interview. I was super excited because I have been following Styled by Zubaidah on Insta for awhile and I love her dresses. Here is my mini interview and pictures:

Who is Styled by Zubaidah? Do you know? Zubaidah originally started her company selling unique jewelry. Now she sells women’s fashion and specializes in selling sizes 12-22. How amazing is that? A company especially for us curvier women, because guess what, we want to look fashionable too!! Not only does Zubaidah run her company designing beautiful women’s fashion she is also a wife and mommy and has a full time job outside of running this business. A woman after my own heart! I asked her about her background and what made her want to start this company.

When asked about her clothing she said, she likes to make things that have some stretch to it. Stretchy material is great for curvier women,  she wants to make sure the clothes fit comfortably.

I asked her how does she build up clientele. Her response was mostly word of mouth and events. She has a quality product that people want to spend their money on, and its modest. For example, the cardigans I’m wearing in the pictures wasn’t sheer, so would not require much layering especially during the hot summer.  She does post on social media as well.

Lastly I asked her what is her biggest challenge-? Like a true designer, her answer was, redefining , staying relevant, having things that fit the curvier women that they will feel comfortable in. Doing this AND being a mother  (finding the time for it all). However, even with these challenges, she loves it and does it for the pleasure of her lord. Providing women with clothes that they can feel beautiful in, while still maintaining their modesty.

I am great full I got to meet Zubaidah and I look forward to meeting up with her again in the near future iA!

Now, how about these dresses and cardigans? They are all available here.
